Alive in Christ

Read: Ephesians 2:1-10

Because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ. (v. 4 NIV)

Following worldly ways and not cooperating with God often looks appealing. We are tempted to say, “I want to follow my own thoughts and plans.” Satan wants us to think his ways are more enjoyable and often he deceives us. Yet sin always promises more than it can deliver. The fine print reads, “Fatal if swallowed.”

Jesus came to the earth and made the path clear: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). He offers us the gift of eternal life by grace alone. Because of the Lord’s great love for us, he sent Jesus to be the ultimate sacrifice. Otherwise, we’d be lost forever in sin and death, trying to save ourselves. But Christ alone saved us by grace through faith (Eph. 2:8-9). Our part is to ask God to forgive us and to believe in him. He then pours his love into our hearts and that makes us desire to please him (Rom. 5:5). He has set up ways in advance to serve him with joy (Eph. 2:10).

Jesus is the only way to obtain eternal life. He said he came so that we may have life, and have it to the full (John 10:10). We can live abundant lives here on earth as well as in the age to come. Praise God for making us alive with Christ!
