Jesus: The Only Authorized One

Read: John 14:1-7

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (v. 6 NIV)

When my twenty-year-old wheelchair lift for our van broke, we brought it in to be repaired. They determined that the control board had blown, but locating one was difficult. The manufacturer was bought by another company and as we later found out, this shop was not an authorized dealer. After three months of trying several aftermarket boards, the lift was deemed unfixable. Before looking for a new lift, we tried a different shop—an authorized dealer. Within a week the lift was fixed.

This experience has taught me the importance of dealing with someone who is authorized. Jesus is the only one who is certified to open heaven for us. After Jesus told his disciples that he was going to prepare a place for them in God’s house, Thomas did not understand where Jesus was going or how to get there. The Lord explained that he is the only way to get to the Father. When we believe that God has forgiven all our sins through Jesus’ crucifixion, then we can enter heaven in confidence that we will be accepted by a holy God. Through his death and resurrection Jesus has authorized our admittance into heaven.

The authorized dealer’s efforts made it possible for me to take my electric wheelchair places again. Jesus made heaven possible for all of us. Thanks to his sacrifice, we have a place in heaven. —Steve Laman

Prayer: Thank you, Jesus, for authorizing heaven for us.
