Read: Philippians 4:10-13
I can do all this through him who gives me strength. (v. 13 NIV)
When you are two, every little accomplishment is a big deal. My little nephew gets so proud of himself when he does something for the first time. It does not matter if it is getting into his booster seat or climbing a flight of stairs. After he accomplishes the task, he gets a big smile on his face and in his two-year-old voice exclaims, “I did it!”
The apostle Paul had many “I did it” moments. He was writing from prison to encourage and thank the people of the church in Philippi for the gifts they sent him. Paul went on to explain why he was so upbeat despite being in prison. He had suffered a lot for the sake of Christ. He had been in jail, gone through shipwrecks, and suffered from starvation. Despite all the awful circumstances he faced, he could proclaim, “I did it!” Jesus Christ was with him and helped him overcome the difficulties he faced. Christ gave him strength for whatever he encountered.
My nephew was so proud of what he accomplished, and like Paul we can boast in the Lord for not letting the circumstances of life get us down. We can deal with a disability, an illness, a death, or any kind of setback because Christ is right by our side helping us. When he has seen us through we can look back and say, “I did it with the help of Christ!” —Steve Laman
Prayer: Lord, thank you for being with us no matter what comes into our lives.
