Read: Psalm 26
For your steadfast love is before my eyes, and I walk in your faithfulness. (v. 3)
Great is thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
there is no shadow of turning with thee;
thou changest not; thy compassions, they fail not;
as thou hast been thou forever wilt be.
In November of 2015, Jordan Smith performed a stirring rendition of Thomas Chisholm’s hymn “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” just days after terrorist attacks in Paris, France. At the time, Smith was a contestant on the United States reality television show “The Voice.” Smith’s performance was one of the most popular in the program’s history, claiming the top spot on iTunes within hours of the show airing. Millions of listeners got the opportunity to be reminded of God’s great love.
We don’t all have the opportunity to sing a hymn on national television, but we all have many chances to tell of God’s faithfulness. We can read and discuss Bible stories with our children. We can model integrity and morality through our jobs. And we can offer prayer and encouragement for the needy in our communities.
The lost and hurting need to know God’s comfort and peace. If you feel led to share your faith with someone, ask God and he will give you the courage to do so. “The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases . . . great is your faithfulness” (Lam. 3:22-23). —Joy Petroelje
Prayer: “Great is thy faithfulness, great is thy faithfulness . . . great is thy faithfulness, Lord unto me!” God, help me to willingly share of your love with those in my life.
