Come to Jesus

Joy Petroelje

Read: Matthew 11:25-30

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. (v. 28)

Singer-songwriter Chris Rice’s “Untitled Hymn” calls us to rest in the promise of new life.

            Weak and wounded sinner, lost and left to die;
            O, raise your head, for Love is passin’ by.
            Come to Jesus, come to Jesus, come to Jesus and live!

Perhaps over the last two weeks you’ve read these devotions and sang along. Or maybe you found it hard to sing; you are enduring a time of uncertainty, or deep grief, or unexpected change. Or even still, perhaps you have not yet given your life to Christ?

No matter your current situation, the invitation to accept God’s love through faith in Christ is open to you today. The Bible tells us clearly in Acts 4:12 that “there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” If you already belong to Jesus, let his love comfort you and his light shine through you. If you have not given your life to him, read his promise in Matthew 11:25 again. Jesus welcomes you to give the burdens of this life to him and trust him fully. He spread his arms wide on the cross and paid the debt of sin for you so you could spend eternity in heaven with him. Come to Jesus today and live! —Joy Petroelje

Prayer: Dear God, I give my burdens to you again. I trust you with my life. I will rest in the promise of salvation through Christ.
